The therapeutic concept

What is counselling, actually? What do people go to a counsellor for, and how will I be helped here?

What Is Counselling?

Counselling, also known as talk therapy, is professional support where we explore your Professional counselling to help you manage stress, emotional challenges, and life transitions. Sessions are available in my private practice, outdoors, or online.

When Counselling Can Help

Counselling supports adults facing:

My Approach

My work is rooted in the humanistic, person-centred approach developed by Carl Rogers, an evidence-based model grounded in the belief that every individual has the capacity for growth, self-understanding, and meaningful change. It means focusing on you, your experience, thoughts, and emotions, rather than on labels or diagnoses. In a safe, non-judgmental space, I provide attentive, empathetic support that allows you to explore what matters at your own pace and develop lasting, self-directed solutions.

I also integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), a mindfulness-based approach that helps you connect with the different “parts” of yourself, including critical, anxious, or protective aspects, with curiosity and compassion. By understanding these inner parts, you can reduce self-criticism, strengthen emotional regulation, and foster a calmer, more balanced, and self-led way of responding to life’s challenges.

For some clients, outdoor sessions (“Walk & Talk”) provide a particularly effective alternative. Combining counselling with gentle movement in nature, these sessions offer physical and mental space to reflect, access emotions more freely, and gain fresh perspectives. Outdoor therapy maintains the same professional depth and structure as traditional sessions, while offering a setting that can feel more grounding, accessible, and aligned with how you naturally process experiences.

Together, these approaches provide a flexible, personalised framework to support clarity, self-compassion, and meaningful, lasting change.
